Lucien Peron
Swimming has been Coach Lucien’s passion ever since he taught himself how to swim at the age of six. As the Markham Masters Swimming Club coach, Coach Lucien helps swimmers identify areas for improvement. In-pool practices are carefully planned and structured. Lucien also recommends conditioning routines that can be done on swimmers’ own time. Swimmers learn and have fun in a relaxed atmosphere.
A triathlon coach since 2016, Coach Lucien is passionate about helping his athletes set and meet their goals. Whether they’re active to stay fit or take part in competitions, Lucien provides the guidance and support required in all aspects of endurance training and racing. He helps them develop self-awareness and mindfulness, refine their technique, and develop tactical skills. As importantly, he reminds them that life balance is critical to their success.
As a full-distance triathlete and open water swimmer, Lucien has swum distances ranging from 800m to 9 km. He has also completed 13 Ironman races (3.8 km swim, 180 km cycling, 42.2 km run) around the world. Lucien has tackled open water in oceans and lakes. As a marathoner, he has completed marathons on five continents.
Born in Montreal, and raised in Colombia, Lucien grew up with access to Olympic-size outdoor swimming pools year-round. He competed as both, a swimmer and a fin-swimmer in Colombia, as a member of the team that eventually won the national club championship, as well as in masters swim competitions in Canada.
